How do I get Adobe Reader on my Mac?
- Go to MacUpdate to download the Adobe Reader.
- Click the green "Download" button.
- Open the file from your downloads folder and go through the installation process.
- Once you have gone through the installation process you can launch the app from your "Applications" folder.

Truly just terribly designed software, I'm using a pro Mac computer fully loaded in this thing still has problems, just a joke. The only reason why I'm using it over Mac preview app is I need to do measurements of some drawings otherwise I would not touch this.

This is the one and only PDF app for OSX that actually fills-out PDF application forms. I've tried 8 or 9 other apps that claim to do the same thing, but they don't. Adobe Reader does the job simply and neatly. That, is well worth the 5 stars I'm giving it today.

The full name of this dog is Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. Yes, the infamous and detested Acrobat DC. So I installed it as a test to see how it compares to DC Pro, and it's just as bad. The program opens with an index of all the PDFs opened on your Mac since the Age of Dinosaurs. The viewer window is dominated by a big, red "Convert" button which apparently installs a 30-day trial of Acrobat DC Pro, and an optional "Sign In" on the top right. The Save As window is especially confusing, with a couple of online options you might not even have. To save normally requires pressing a second, "Other" button. Like Pitbull, I immediately deleted it using the free AppCleaner app (a must-have, 5-star utility).

When the update was installed it took away the possibility to view panoramas running Quick Time 7. Now I have to waste time reinstalling the previous version that worked fine. Also have to tell my customers why they can't view the panoramas. Have now disabled Macupdates. What a waste of time!

As we know, Adobe Reader is buggy, insecure bloatware; I keep an old version around for just one task: to determine which fonts are embedded in a PDF. Preview doesn't give this information, neither do Skim or PDFpen. Does anybody know of a free PDF viewer which can show this information? Also helpful would be a PDF viewer which allows wildcard searches; so far as I can tell from Adobe's chaotic website, Reader does not, nor do Preview or Skim.

I don't care for the DC version of Adobe Reader. It clutters up the interface with stuff most of us don't need or want. It's just one more naked ploy to get people to pay for Adobe cloud services. I don't know if they're just too greedy or too stupid, but, as with their Creative Cloud, they're driving people to look for alternatives to Adobe software. And the so-called classic path version is much the same, not really classic at all. In order to install the last version of the old Adobe Reader app listed above you need to get the full install of version 11.001 at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5540. As with the stand-alone versions of the CS 6 apps and Lightroom, they don't make the location easy to find, no doubt on purpose. At Adobe it's Creative Cloud everywhere, all the time. Adobe is now run by the marketing department. Customer service, of every kind, is buried deep.

It's irritating that the Adobe Reader plugin is installed by default when you install Adobe Reader, which overrides the intrinsic Safari PDF reader when viewing PDFs on the web. Two weeks ago I left my Windows PC when I received my brand new MBP. When I wanted to open a PDF, I naturally went on Adobe website and installed the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Even with a tiny PDF (10 pages) it is difficult to scroll and navigate through the document (with the magic mouse it is almost impossible). On my Windows PC everything is fine but on my MBP, it is just awful. Fans a running at the maximum speed (it seems o) and the pages are jumping. Then I installed PDF Reader Pro and everything went back to normal. Strange. On the Adobe forum, some people are complaining for more than 6 months and I can see that nothing has been done so far. Is it because of the MBP retina 2013? Thanks to MacUpdate I am going now to try Skim.

For anyone that cares, (I'm looking at you Enterprise people) the version number remains the same. The actual 11.0.0.4 has a creation date of Sept. 5, 2013 and the just-released 11.0.0.4 is dated Dec. 20, 2013. At least that is the case for the version downloaded from Adobe's enterprise site.

Caution to the Intel® 32-bit users here that need the PDF™ NPAPI (browser plugin) version of this 11.0.01 update: Adobe® has apparently eliminated (or "forgot") the 32-bit chunk of the code — it is only 64-bit in this 11.0.01 package. But they did provide the 32-bit chunk for the Non-NPAPI plugin here (it should therefore work in both modes). [FYI Firefox needs the NPAPI version; Firefox is still built for both Intel® bit-modes, even the Nightly official builds… The previous Adobe® PDF NPAPI plugin (for 11.0.0) did have both chunks, so this 11.0.01 build would seem a regression… I have tried every–which–way to login with my id at adobe.com so I could report this, but they use URLs that won't pass my thick DNS filters (ergo no browser can successfully log me in here, and no I am not going to change the filters 'just' for them)… Maybe if someone really cared about this apparent regression, s/he might go file a bugreport with them about this… ] .

Always defaults to the first Printer in the alphabet (which on my mac is the one which is usually not available) even if another default printer is set. THIS SUCKS BIG TIME. Please, adobe, use the system print dialogue like you did until Reader 9 instead messing everything up with your own one. Your print settings on Mac are simply a mess!

Adobe, would it really be so bad to name the disk image something non geek-speak? The disk image and the volume name is "AdbeRdr1014_en_US" which is not exactly something you can find the next day in Spotlight using, oh, I dont' know "Adobe" or "Acrobat". If your servers are so limited that they cannot handle a file name like "Adobe Acrobat 10.4.1.dmg" then maybe it is time to consider upgrading to Mac OS X Server.

I agree with previous posts regarding the updater - I have not been able to get the updater to work since buying this product a year ago. I've spent hours on the phone with Adobe, created new administrator accounts, and it still doesn't work. They don't seem to have an answer. So as much as I'd like to comment on the functionality of each new version, I can't get there from here!

Slowed my Mac Pro to a crawl running Lion 10.7.3. How could it take up so much space??? For WHAT? I looked for an uninstaller. None. I did a manual uninstall using EasyFind and AppCleaner. Things are zippy again (knock knock). I'll stick to Preview and Skim. The Behemoth Adobe Built. Never again.

I tried to update this twice by Updating from inside the Client. It D/Ls a file that opens as a dmg file (I think it was dmg) that starts to update and then hangs. After a half hour of hanging I quit and rebooted and tried again. Same thing.

I returned to 9.4.x because of the horrible new, non standard printer settings. No reliable way to print duplex. Sometimes the second page is printed empty, then simply no duplex at all, adobes settings and the system wide settings simply seem to fight each other... - the new print dialogue works fine in the windows version, but is a mess on mac osx. feels like they just used windows code and abandoned any effort of porting it halfways in the process.

I had only one use for Reader 9. It was to print out booklets and Reader 9 had a very handy Print window that would let you set up your booklet so it would print properly. Now with Reader 10 I just don't get it! Reader 10 has done away with the ability to set up and print booklets. So I have absolutely no use for it. I guess I for one will stick with Reader 9 for booklet printing, but I'll continue to use Preview for reading PDF files.

Adobe has high standards - and that's why Adobe Reader is such a disappointment; the good news is that they've shown considerable interest in improving their products - at least the paid ones, anyway. Reader, currently, is sluggish, has a large footprint, and is very difficult to configure. I'll use VLC or Preview to view PDFs because it's faster and easier to use. Reader needs a makeover to move it into real competition.

I've had to uninstall Reader X and re-install v9.4.1 as Reader X overrides my printer presets: it persists in printing in colour when the preset (for economic reasons) is black and white printing. Reverting to v9 fixes that. Plus, attempting to make any changes in the convoluted Reader X printing prefs results in a 'no pages selected to print' error. Plus, having the v9 simple search box right there just seems easier to use - for me, the new UI isn't intuitive.

Reader 10 doesn't handle fonts well at all. Opening a well-made pdf file (e.g. "Property List Programming Guide" from Apple) has the text looking like a ransom note made from cutout letters. The pdf shows perfectly in Reader 9. The Reader X view of the pdf is difficult to read. I'm junking Reader X and waiting for Adobe to do what they should have done before releasing this version.

1: The installer detects the older version and asks if it's okay to replace it. 2: Choose "Customize" in the Installation Type screen to NOT have the browser plug-in installed. (It's installed by default.) If you choose to not install the plug-in, when you first run this version you'll be asked again if you want to install it.

funny is, there is a complete psycho on macupdate hunts for posts mentioning ppc and abuses the rating system. Drop PPC support? Flne. Where is coretext api support? OpenCL? parallel processing? Graphics acceleration? I have a weird guess that this version has much more copied/pasted/outsourced Bangalore code in it. I wouldn't jump to it on production machines.

Reader 9.x was already over 150 MB but Version 10.0 takes an incredible 300MB of disk space. I really don't want to waste so much space... Sure, Skim and Preview are smaller because they use the System's PDF-View but I don't see the reason why Adobe Reader doubled in size. I don't know but I guess Reader 7 and 8 were even smaller and they could show pdfs just as well...

Even they don't ship a PPC binary, not a big loss for PPC users. Adobe will ship 9.x updates to PPC Macs. It doesn't add anything to PDF specification which went way too ahead of industry already. For a PDF reader, you must figure what version of PDF spec it supports. As long as it is 1.4 or higher, you are fine. Why they shipped this version is x86 Windows. They had to sandbox horribly written code so it won't be exploited. They are dreaming as black hats aren't really computer newbie developers. They will eventually find ways to exploit it even in a worse way. They didn't do what it takes to make a really secure, liked reader. Only Apple could do it. Remove/delete entire source, start from beginning. That is MacOS to OS X.

Adobe Reader 9.4.1 is not Intel-only, contrary to what it says under "Platform" above. When giving information about updates, MacUpdate's right-hand column doesn't know what it's left-hand column is doing.

Just launch your existing Adobe Reader application. Then check for updates in the Reader menu bar. The new version will appear and then simply install.

The above Adobe Reader is just an Updater, and it fails gloriously to update 9.3.0 to 9.4.1. Maybe it is made to update from 9.4.0 to 9.4.1. Who knows? I'll stay with 9.3.0 for the rare cases I use this PDF viewer.

Adobe Reader is like inviting a middle aged street bum to live in your household rent free. It contributes absolutely nothing of value and consumes as much of your resources as it likes. It may seem like a grand idea to start with but ultimately you will guaranteed, come to regret your choice.

Pro: - Hitting cmd-d shows what fonts are used in a PDF, essential for typophiles (Preview can't do that) Con: - Extremely terrible and nearly unusable PDF display, much inferior than Preview (all Adobe Products also InDesign have this massive bug aka "feature") For daily PDF use Preview, Skim or Papers are my favourites.

Not necessary for the Mac. For most general PDF needs, Preview is fine. And while preview does have the disadvantage of having to download all PDFs to use it, I will accept that in exchange for not having to deal with the bloated, security hole ridden software that is Adobe Acrobat. That being said - There are some uses for it. Preview can't handle locked/protected PDFs and caused major problems when I tried to access an online textbook. Turns out I needed Adobe Reader to open the PDF directly in the browser for it to work. I still have it installed for times like that, but Preview is my default PDF reader.

It is ridicolous that they abandoned PowerPC users with "Adobe Air" (no 2.x or 1.x secure version) but they still insist opening that GIANT SECURITY HOLE once you run their application. How? It installs Adobe air insecure version again. Trust me, they will soon be banned by corporate 100.000 seat networks or governments. They are pushing admins too far. BTW; I am not a fan of OS X preview either. It is also funny that mac developers haven't figured our market either. They have access to Quartz PDF rendering free, just add couple of corporate features, sell for $10. Should we tell these as users?

The description is misleading in my opinion. The Adobe reader is hardly "essential" given that OS X comes with Preview. Sure, Preview lacks a couple of the newer features but even so I've never found the need to install the Adobe reader. Of course, Safari handles PDF files in the browser natively too, so for most (I guess most stick with Safari) this is a non-issue too. In addition, Netscape... IE!? Adobe probably needs to start paying attention and come up with a better description for mac users.

Not sure what portends, but this updater ran flawlessly for me. I just hope it's sign that Adobe has (finally) developed an installer that works.

None of Adobe's crappy "updaters" ever worked for me either. I was stuck with version 9.3.0 for months. Fortunately, as of this morning, there is now a "unity" full installer of Reader 9.3.3 available at http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/. Download that, drag your old version of Reader to the trash, install, and bang - you won't have to bother with the tedious series of (usually broken) updaters. At least until *more* security issues emerge....
Doesn't work for me. Download the updater (AdbeRdrUpd933_all_i386.dmg), open it, it asks me to "choose the copy of AdobeReader to update" but, after navigating to it, I can't select my Adobe Reader, it's dimmed.
